Janita Interview with Janita Smith Fashion Blogger

Q: How did you first become interested in fashion and why is it important for you?

Janita: I first became interested in fashion watching my grandmother sew her own dolls clothes for all her dolls and I found that so amazing. She didn’t own a sewing machine, everything was done by hand. Now, I have to say growing up I was a true tom boy, but wearing the latest tennis shoes and jeans. I still made a fashion statement that everyone in school follow. I love texture, attention to detail and putting different looks together. I day dream fashion, that should tell you something. LOL!

Fashion is important to me because it’s my way of expressing me. When I can’t talk in the room full of people, the fashion statement I make can. I love giving fashion advice and tips on how to put different pieces together. It’s also important because starting my fashion blog is giving me a second chance at my dream when others wouldn’t give me the opportunity. I now have that opportunity, which is a great outlet for me.

Q: What inspires you? Who are your favorite designers?

Janita: I get inspired by music, different trends which I try to incorporate and make it my own and prints. My favorite designer would have to be Roberto Cavalli and Diane von Furstenberg. Their attention to details prints and fabrics are impeccable, although I can’t afford any of their clothes yet! I get inspired from their sense of fashion and make it my own. Which is classic and everlasting?

Q: What was the most expensive thing you have ever bought?

Janita: The most expensive thing I’ve purchase were my first pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. I was super excited about that purchased and the most expensive thing in my closet. LOL!

Q: What are your cost saving tips? Can you share them with our readers?

Janita: Gladly! Learn how to compare prices and know your budget. Don’t ever shop beyond your means. There are stores for all budgets. I have a shopping budget of how much I’m going to spend and I’m not afraid to use coupons in stores. It saves you money. My friends laugh at me, but I come out the store with more bags and they wonder why. This doesn’t mean you stop looking for the best quality, but knowing how to get a great quality item for less.

Q: What things do you choose to save money on?

Janita: I save money on clothes & accessories. I know shocking right!! I say that to say this. My money goes mostly on shoes and purses per question #3…hint…hint. You can buy a $20 outfit, but it’s your shoes, clutch or tote that’s going to make a statement. That’s the first thing a person will compliment you on is your shoes or bag, the outfit comes after.

Q: Do you have money saving tips for our readers when it comes to fashion?

Janita: Yes, again don’t be afraid to use coupons, set a budget (It’s not hard, trust me, thank me later icon smile Interview with Janita Smith Fashion Blogger ) and know that shopping online can be cheaper than going in store. Not only will it save you gas money for driving there, but you can get free shipping and/or discounts off your items and always, ALWAYS compare prices.

Q: What do you think about taking out a loan for buying something you love? Have you ever taken a loan?

Janita: I wouldn’t take out a loan for shopping, that’s absurd and irresponsible in my opinion. I would take a loan out to buy a house. Right now I have school loans (bummer) and a car loan, so there you have it. That was a necessity, not a want.

  1. Thanks for the tips, I've been struggling with my personal finances for a long time now. It has gotten so bad that I was forced to get cash for my structured settlement payments. After researching some personal finance tips online, I feel like I'm going to be in much better shape. Has anyone benefited from applying new principals to their finance? If so, what have you found most helpful?

  2. Hi James,
Thanks for your comment. We all in some shape or form struggle with our finances. I know one thing that help me that I thought would not be beneifical was having a savings and budget…budget..budget!!! I can not stress that enough. What I find most helpful is getting what you need and not what you want, pay your bills on time and consulting with a financial advisor can be beneficial as well. If you put all those things in to play. You will find that in the end you will have extra money to do the things that you want to treat yourself b/c you've earned it. 🙂
